Army stance plays an very important role in the game. Whether you are attacking or defending or in case raiding, stances make a lot of difference.
There are 6 types of stances:-
– Aggressive
– Defensive
– Stand Ground
– Raid
– Raze
– Hold Fire
When should I use them?
Aggressive:- Use this stance when you are fighting a battle. This is the default stance. Remember your units must always be fighting. This stance is not advised when your defending an attack. I mean when your armies are behind city, waiting for your opponent to advance.
Defensive:- Use this stance when you are defending. While defending you want your opponent to come to you rather then your units going to his armies and fighting. Change stance to aggressive when armies are fighting a battle. You can use this stance when your sieges are firing your opponent’s city and you don’t want your units esp. cavalries to go ahead and start fighting unless the city is reduced.
Stand Ground:- Use this stance when you are defending. Unlike defensive stance, your units don’t move from position. You can set archers to stand ground stance while defending since they fight well when they are not moving.
Raid:- This stance is must while raiding.
Raze:- You can use this stance when you are attacking a city. Nations like Lakota get plunder while attacking food related buildings. So you can use this stance there. This stance is rarely used.
Hold Fire:- Use when you don’t want your units to fight. This will never happen. Then where can I use it? Answer is when you are Iroquois. In Iroquois, your units are invisible to your opponent in friendly territory when they are not attacking.
Note that you need to use these stances according to situations in the game.
The following are shortcuts to changing stances. Just select your armies and press the following keys to change their stance :-
– Aggressive SHIFT + a
– Defensive SHIFT + e
– Stand Ground SHIFT + g
– Raid SHFT + r
– Raze SHIFT + z
– Hold Fire SHIFT + h
Indeed, stances are crucial in game.Hold fire is only useful when u want to entrech some units and doesnt want them to attack and enemy unit nearby and screw the entrench up(only troops idle for 5 secs can be entrenched).Raze stance is useless anyway i think.
I don’t agree about raid stance. Suppose, that u gonna raid a rare. U go with attacking move your raider (eg HC) and nearby enemie’s rare is also situated HC, but of earlier age (so your HC is stronger). If your stance is raid. raider’ll attack rare and enemie’s HC will kill yours. But if your stance is Aggressive, your HC will kill enemie at first and than crush rare)

Raid stance is the best with HAs,since if something is chasing your HA you probably want it to do as much damage as possible before he dies(same goes for killing a rare while a LC chases your HA)
